Fandom 50 S4 Post 12: BTS vs. SPICY FOOD
Apr. 10th, 2026 12:08 pmglitteryvI've been a v. casual fan of the web show Hot Ones throughout the years and, being also an ARMY, I was deffo looking forward to the day BTS would be invited to the show.
Which happened this past Thursday. It was MAGNIFICENT, LOLARIOUS, CHAOTIC, nothing more than 25 MINUTES OF SHEER AWESOMECAKINESS ON EVERY LEVEL. As expected Sean Evans and his team did some good research (digging deep into old lore, even)--which resulted on actually good questions from an USian show. Even the Tannies themselves were shocked at what was brought up in the interview.
Aside from that, this is one of the most accessible bits of content when it comes to BTS for ppl who don't know them at all: the guys are charming and goofy; their bond is v. obvious (as well as their nerdery). It's a great showcase of what BTS' dynamic is like for ppl who have never even listened to one of their songs.
IMO, it's also a fantastic episode to watch if you want some good vibes and lots of laughs.

Apr. 10th, 2026 01:10 pmturpsBodhi and Kayleigh dropped in for a little while yesterday. While here Bodhi went and stood in front of the shelves in the living room and asked why I had all of that stuff, meaning my display of Funkos. So, I explained, like her, I liked superheroes, at which point she said, if I liked superheroes where was Spider-Man? Sorry various Hawkeyes, Ronin, Winter Soldier etc, you're just not superheroes enough it seems. But sigh, judged by a four-year-old and found lacking again.
The craft fair on Monday was a weird one. Despite being there from before nine to four, the time seemed to fly, and yet we only made one sale, so didn't even get the table price back. Mainly it was due to location, when we'd first been offered a spot it was mentioned there were tables outside and inside, and while that was true, there was actually only one table inside, the rest being in the pub garden, so it wasn't very often people actually saw the one in the foyer at the back. Which of course, was the one we'd been assigned. I mean, it was good to be warm with some decent music to listen to, but you need people for sales.
One bonus was the pub was just over the car park from a Morrisons, so I went there for two meal deals for dinner, because nearly £5 for one drink of Pepsi Max from the pub was only going to happen once.
The organiser did ask if James wanted a table at the next event, but thankfully, it's the same date as the monthly maker's market in our town we always attend, so we didn't have to make up an excuse to turn down the invite.
A couple of people have been reading and commenting on many of my bandom stories lately, and getting those comments has been delightful. I especially liked the one on Painted Ponies where they commented, and when i replied, replied to that comment with even more detailed feedback, saying they'd thought I'd have been long gone from the fandom. And nope, despite the lack of actual writing, still love that ridiculous band, still hanging onto to the edges of the fandom with a few other fandom bandom olds.
Funnily enough, the last comment was on Caged where the band is saved by Spider-Man, adding to the Spidey mentions this week.
I was in Lush the other day buying a bunny bath bomb for Bodes, and they had these ( sparkly ET bath bombs )

But when I came home after chorus last night I happened upon a Richard Marx episode of Stories To Tell, on YouTube, from about five months ago. It's here:

The guests are JC Chasez and Lance Bass, and it is lovely! Really interesting, from both of them, from different perspectives on the early days of Nsync to how Lance really felt about being unable to come out to JC's work on the Frankenstein musical (Playing With Fire), all kinds of stuff. And Richard Marx genuinely likes them both and they like him. It is just a delight to listen to. And it is almost an hour and a half long.
Marx mentioned Candide—okay, Candide? anybody? What did JC do with that?
It was so perfect, I just had to laugh.

The sycamore tree is a glorious thing. It is a handsome tree, tall and straight and with majestic and elegant branches. Its leaves are lovely and, in autumn, spectacular.
And it is evil. It is out for world domination. A sycamore tree's one ambition is to fill the entire temperate zone with sycamore forest. Its seeds sprout everywhere and are relentless. Miss one, and you have a sapling three feet tall which takes enormous effort to extract, or a five foot high growth which must be KILLED WITH FIRE.
I plucked about fifty baby sycamores this morning when I had only gone into the garden to pick some kale. Grar.

Fandom 50 S4 Post 11: BTS' new aesthetic
Apr. 8th, 2026 03:38 pmglitteryvAmong the things that BTS has mentioned here and there in interviews is how part of their return to the Kpop world as a unit doesn't mean that they're gonna be wearing flashy clothes or sporting wild looks. This statement seemed truth at first: BTS wearing sailor outfits was the most 'out there' style in the official MV for "SWIM", after all.
But then, for "2.0", they wore 'old', i.e. late 90s, clothes at the start of that video and then a more modern wardrobe.
For "Hooligan", a 3rd (and v. happy surprise) MV from the album, BTS has gone into a hyperfashion that's black leather, post-apocalyptic, futurist, warrior-like... AND EYELINER. Which is part of their ancient lore and v. early eras. (All men lie...) 🤣
I was SHOOOOOOOOOOOKETH TO THE CORE from the v. second Jin appears onscreen to the end credits, LOLsob. And so was everyone else. The song was already KILLA and this MV elevated an already fantastic song to a tremendously awesome level, NGL.

Apr. 8th, 2026 04:16 pmpensnestIt is my LJ 21st anniversary. Amazing. Am still sad about LJ's demise, since DW, while plainly better functioning and better run, was too late to pick up on all the fandoms that fled, and so is less lively than LJ used to be. It transformed my fannish life.

I walked four kilometres (plus a little bit) today, to the hairdresser and back. It is a delightfully sunny, warm Spring day, and I regretted even putting on a cardigan to go out. Stuffed it into a bag on the way home.

My plantses are growing. Three green courgettes and two yellow (I broke the third, sigh); three pumpkins, a dozen sweetcorn stalks. A sole cauliflower and about four feeble kales, which is disappointing as I got a lot of tasty crunchy cake last year and would like to do more this time. The mange tout I planted in the garden have done nothing at all, but I have put out framework for beans and will plant them this week.

Apr. 8th, 2026 08:57 amjust_ann_nowOur temperature dropped down to 27 degrees overnight, but from what I can see, none of the garden flowers were adversely affected. Supposed to warm up again later in the week! This see-saw weather is getting very old, though.
What I Just Finished Reading
See-sawing here too, trying out books then discarding them. Thank goodness for Libby and Hoopla! In place of the horrible Intermezzo, I picked up Ann Patchett's Tom Lake, which was lovely and soothing and exactly what I needed right then. (For A to Z Authors.) In place of We the People, I read The Frozen People, by Elly Griffiths. This was a time-travel mystery with just excellent characters. There were lots of loose ends left, though, presumably for sequels. (For Keyword: People.) I also read Magpie Murders, by Anthony Horowitz, which was quite ingenious with its mystery-within-a-mystery. (A to Z Titles).
What I Am Currently Reading
Ditching We the People left me needing something for the Goodreads "Trending Books" challenge, so I picked up We Survived the Night, by Julian Brave Noisecat. I was afraid this was going to be a return to the grim, but it hasn't been like that (too much); lots of mythology and Coyote trickster tales woven in to the narrative.
What I Am Reading Next
My hold of The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende came in just this morning; this will be the last book for my Dreamwidth Book Bingo. I remember reading and loving this, oh, thirty-some years ago so it will be interesting to see how it lands on me this time.

Fandom 50 S4 Post 10: BTS and returning to the throne
Apr. 7th, 2026 05:33 pmglitteryvThere had been wishes that, after all of the ups and downs of Chapter 2's earlier part (IYKYK), BTS would drop a 5th entry in the Cypher series.
Although that didn't come to be, that's not to say that BTS decided to skip a diss track for ARIRANG. Here comes "2.0", a hip-hop song that might come across as repetitive or having extremely simplistic lyrics. In truth, this is 2026!BTS saying their piece after reuniting and surveying the Kpop landscape. I will dive a bit more when I do the album post (which will probably happen some time next week). So, for now, I can say that I clicked with this song from the get.
And now there's a GLORIOUS MV for it.
Trigger Warnings: lots of shaky cam, fast cuts, and heap of flashing lights throughout the video.
It's taken almost no time for it to become a fan fave. Everything from the many references to other works, to the visuals (both as old!BTS and as present time!BTS), the dancing, and the SWAGGER have been some of the key points that ppl can't stop squeeing abt. I love it to bits.

In a way, it kinda works a vibe of BTS showing up at someone's door and doing their choreo while dropping some choice lines, heheh.

Fandom 50 S4 Post 9: BTS @ Vogue = CHAOS and KNOWLEDGE!
Apr. 6th, 2026 12:25 pmglitteryvAs part of AOTY ARIRANG's promo/rollout, BTS has opted to do a lot of YouTube content with v. few interviews elsewhere. This time around, we get two different videos that bring equal parts lulz and awww.
Starting with Jin attempting to cook while Vmin are just BRATTY AF. He's so patient with their detours and impish vibes. Taehyung, especially, is A TERROR AND A DELIGHT. I was literally wiping tears from my face cuz I laughed THAT hard.
Then, SUGA, RM, Jungkook, and j-hope sat down to teach viewers some Korean words (including slang.) Though less wild than the cooking video, this one deffo had a lot of moments to enjoy as well.
